A 19,000squarefoot mansion on 12 acres of the former 36acre estate of Madame Chiang Kaishek in Lattingtown was purchased by a Chinese buyer, sources say.

Terms weren’t disclosed, but the sale price was reportedly close to the asking price of $11.8 million. Listing broker Jason Friedman, of Laffey Fine Homes in Great Neck, wouldn’t comment on the pending sale, which went into contract just two weeks after it hit the market last month, but he acknowledged there was strong interest on the property, particularly from prospective buyers from China. Originally sold to the Stillman Organization in 1998, the estate once known as Hillcrest where the former first lady of China lived for more than 50 years was eventually divided into four parcels. Madame Chiang first fled to the United States in 1949. She left Taiwan after forces led by her husband, Gen. Chiang Kaishek, China’s former leader, were driven from the Chinese mainland by the Communists. She moved to Manhattan 17 years ago and died in 2003 at the age of 105.

Friedman and his mother Rudi Friedman have just listed another piece of the Madame Chiang property, an 8,000 square foot mansion on a 6acre parcel to the west of the one that just sold. The fivebedroom, sixandahalf bath property, accessed by a half-mile private road off Feeks Lane, is offered at $4.9 million.

“I expect this one will go quickly, too,” Jason Friedman said.
